Background. The article covers topical questions in the field of paremyology: revealing and study of an ethnic component in Russian paroimias of the thematic group “Human”, being equal to a figurative element – an element forming a cognitive space of the Russian linguistic worldview – RLWV. The aim of the work is to completely analyze the logical structure and semantics in paroimias of the thematic group “Human.”
Materials and methods. Such line of the study requires a semantic-cognitive approach. This has to do which the fact that the unified and varied world of Russian worldview (or RLWV) is expressed by the vocabulary, which is used for people’s designation. Lexemes in particular make it possible to reveal the specificity of people’s ethnic characters, who are attached to the Russian culture, which is reflected by proverbial sayings of the thematic group under consideration. The lingvo-cognitive level of U. N. Karaulov’s conception forms the basis of the semantic analysis, which is represented in the scientist’s main work “Russian language and a linguistic person” (2010).
Results. The usage of the second level of development and formation of a linguistic person according to U. N. Karaulov’s conception makes it possible to reveal such functional-categorical features, that define selection and grouping of lexical units, which characterize semantic units (key lexemes) of the initial situation, and to deduce their following transformation.
Conclusions. This approach in the study of paroimias will make it possible not only to perform a comprehensive analysis of sayings of the group, but also to reveal ethnic features of a person in a language.
